SIMON HASSAN
Simon has been a financial adviser since 1990 and is a recognised leader of the profession. A unique blend of analytical and communications skills, knowledge and experience fit him for his many roles.
At Hassan & Associates (www.hassan.co.nz) Simon develops and presents initial and ongoing financial advice. He uses the comprehensive financial planning process with an added focus on investment strategy, portfolio construction and retirement adequacy planning.
Active in the profession, Simon is a past President and a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Advisers (www.ifa.org.nz). He also chaired its College of Financial Planners, and been closely involved over the years with government and industry leaders in the lead up to financial adviser regulation. He is a member of the Disciplinary Committee for Authorised Financial Advisers and is also a member of the Standards Committee and has served as a Councillor and on several working groups of the international Financial Planning Standards Board (www.fpsb.org) which sets and promotes standards for financial planners in 23 countries around the world.
Simon also has a keen interest in professional education and financial advice tools. He also mentors and provides consultancy services to other advisers, advisory firms, government agencies and education providers – and lectures in financial advice at Massey, where he teaches the final ‘capstone’ paper for New Zealand CFP candidates.
Simon has authored numerous articles for professional journals and the press and is a popular national and international speaker on professional matters.
Prior to helping set up Hassan & Associates in 1995, Simon held management and financial advisory roles with a global financial services provider. Before that he taught in secondary schools for 17 years, finishing up as an Assistant Principal.
Simon is a member of the Institute of Directors, a Chartered Life Underwriter, and a Certified Financial PlannerCM professional.
